  • All the translations on this website, unless otherwise noted, are my own. Please mention the source if you intend to reproduce them. A link would be nice. I try to use for my translations only texts that are already in public domain. If you know otherwise, or you are the author and object to your work being replicated here, please let me know at changanu at hotmail. (Yes, dot com, of course.) I will do my best to rectify the situation. Copyright: Cristina Hanganu-Bresch, 2007.

Biography

This is the personal page of Cristina Hanganu-Bresch, a native Romanian currently residing in Philadelphia, PA. I used to have many other personal pages and several other blogs, all of which I quit when they stopped representing me. The Internet being what it is, those pages fleeted about in the Google cache until they gave up and died.

Just so we're clear, the translations I post are my own, as in my intellectual property. I've had the (unpleasant) surprise of having my work posted elsewhere on the net with a different attribution, which is extremely annoying, to say the least. So let me make this clear again: all the translations I post are my own. Copyright: me.

That being said, it goes almost without saying that every translation is an act of betrayal to the original. I am not claiming to make "perfect" translations--in fact, such a thing does not exist. Rather, I am exploring the extent to which translation is possible. I am tackling texts that I like by authors that I like, in hopes that somebody who does not speak Romanian can appreciate them one day. More often than not, I choose these texts because I feel very close to them--sometimes they represent exactly how I feel at the moment. Translating them forces me to internalize their message much more profoundly than, say, just reading or re-posting them in the original. So there.
